Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Kigali. The scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park takes you through beautiful Rwandan highlands, terraced farms, and traditional villages, offering a glimpse of local culture along the way.
Upon arrival at your lodge near the park, check in and enjoy lunch. The afternoon is spent relaxing, preparing for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure. Depending on your arrival time, optional activities such as a forest walk or cultural visit to a nearby community can be arranged. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure
After an early breakfast, you report to the park headquarters for a briefing from the rangers. You are then assigned a gorilla family to trek. Accompanied by experienced guides, you will navigate the dense forest in search of the gorillas. Trekking can take anywhere from two to six hours depending on the gorilla family’s location, but the journey through the lush, misty forest is an experience in itself.
Once you find the gorillas, you are allowed to spend one hour observing their behavior, interactions, and daily routines. This close encounter is humbling and unforgettable, providing incredible photographic opportunities. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and a well-deserved rest. The evening can be spent relaxing and enjoying the lodge’s amenities. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 3: Optional Activities and Return to Kigali

Later in the morning, begin your drive back to Kigali. Along the way, you can stop for lunch or scenic photo opportunities.
