This trip gives the best of the safari mixture to experience in Uganda. On this 6 days gorilla, golden monkey and wildlife safari proposes two national parks of Lake Mburo National Park, and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Expect to engage in safari activities like gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking, game drives, boat cruise, Batwa cultural tours and a scenic views of Lake Bunyonyi. This trip can start from Kampala going to Lake Mburo National Park, proceeds to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and return back to Kampala.

The means of transportation is road using the land cruiser 4×4 safari vehicle and the accommodation is midrange lodges/hotels. Every day of the trip starts with breakfast, has lunch en-route and ends as planned in the detailed itinerary.

Trip Details

Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park & Night Game Drive

Suppose this is the arrival day, upon arrival at Entebbe Entale African Safaris driver guide will be waiting to pick and transfer you to L. Mburo National Park. This drive is about 4 to 5 reaching the park depending on the traffic flow with a stopover at Kayabwe equator for photographs and maybe lunch. Reaching the park at late afternoon hours, check-in at your lodge and rest.

This arrival day will take this amazing night game drive done on torches. This is a rare adventure done in Africa where guests are guided to search, sight and watch various animals through the savannahs. This night game drive is a chances to watch several nocturnal species which are rarely seen during day time. It’s common on a night game drive to find leopards actively hunting. After the night game hunting with torches, then will return to your lodge for the overnight.

Day 2: Explore Lake Mburo (game drive & boat cruise)

This day is to explore the usual life of Lake Mburo National Park, the morning game drive will through various driving track made in the park. This avails more chances of seeing what couldn’t be able to see at night. On this game drive there are chances of seeing animals like zebras, impala, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, larger mammals like buffalos, hippos, giraffes among others. On a drive well also find rare species like lions, leopards lousily relaxed, and wild dogs among others. The game drive at the park is an opportunity of watching so many bird species plus a lot of games. This park is free from elephants; there are no chances of watching one.

After lunch; take on an afternoon boat lunch at Lake Mburo which is the largest among all lakes within the park. the boat cruise can last for about  hours and is filled with exciting moments of seeing both water and land mammals. Among the aquatic life to encounter are the hippo, crocodiles, monitor lizards and so many water bird species. Also ill find a number of land mammals like buffalos, and zebras, giraffes seen at the shores of the lake drawing water or relaxed at the lake’s shores.

Day 3: Morning Horseback Riding & Transfer to Mgahinga

This morning enjoy a picnic served breakfast, this morning take a morning horseback riding through the open savannah woodlands. The horseback riding is a special safari activity which is only designed for travelers to Lake Mburo national park. The horseback riding is arranged by Mihingo lodge and can last for to 3 hours.  Check-out of your lodge and proceed on a drive westwards stopping at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Driving along with reach the park in the evening hours.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa

It’s a day to trek the gorillas, trekking mountain gorillas is tracing human evolution which claimed by scientists to have happened at least 7 billion years ago. Mgahinga has only one habituated gorilla family. The day starts with breakfast, then briefing at the starting point at 7:30am, and by 8am be ready to roll into the forest and initiated a search on the gorilla. The gorilla experiences through bamboo highlands of Mgahinga takes about a maximum of 5 hours. On this trekkers have an hour experience in the presence of the gorillas, following and being entertained.

Thereafter, relax, have lunch and in the evening hours take a drive to the Batwa pygmy community for the cultural experiences. A cultural tour to these marginalized group of people brings into learning their daily and listening to tales narrating what happened to them right at the time of forced evacuation from the gorilla homes.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking & Lake Bunyonyi

A morning started with breakfast, rush to be briefed and by 8am roll into forest highlands of Mgahinga’s bamboos searching for the beautiful golden monkey. The golden monkeys, though they are shy but are fully habituated to accommodate human presence. In the presence of the golden monkey tracking there is an hour allowance following them. The tracking is wetted with a lot of encounters among which include birds, and several primate species, some mammals among with limited chances of finding gorillas. The all process of golden monkey tracking can last for 3 to 4 hours not so tiresome like gorillas can be.

Then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, explore what this amazing beautiful lake. At the lake will consider taking an afternoon boat ride on this Africa’s 2nd deepest lake. The lake has fascinating islands to visit and explore and the common is the punishment island. Use like 2 to 3 hours on the lake, then return to your lodge for lunch and relax for the rest of the day.

Day 6: Transfer back to Kampala

This morning enjoy a relaxed picnic breakfast, and embark on a drive back to Kampala. On the drive there is an en-route at Igongo Cultural Center in Mbarara for lunch and can use an hour to visit the Museum for tales about the western Uganda culture and traditional. Reach Kampala by late evening hours and your drop off will be either at Entebbe International airport or to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe.
