Details of the 6 Days Rwanda Gorilla and Lake Kivu Tour

Day 1: Pick Up from Kigali International Airport

On this day, you will be welcomed by our company representative, who will be your guide for the next 6 Days, Rwanda Gorilla and Lake Kivu. Your guide will take you through a briefing for the day Rwanda Gorilla and Lake Kivu, including the destinations, activities and accommodation centres you are going spend the next days on safari. Later, you will transfer to the hotel for your dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Visit Kigali Genocide Memorial and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will transfer to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you shall have an insight into the 1994 genocide that led to the tragic loss of over 800,000 victims. The Kigali genocide memorial was constructed as a burial ground for the genocide victims.

Later, you shall proceed to Volcanoes National Park, taking you for about 2 hours heading to the northwestern part of Rwanda. Volcanoes National Park is a major gorilla trekking destination in Rwanda consisting of over about 300 mountain gorillas, including fully habituated gorilla families, for a good visitor experience. The park is also home to the rare golden monkey, other primate species, and different bird species. Arrive at the lodge, check in for your dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Rise early in the morning with a mouth-watering breakfast, and pack your gorilla trekking requirements, including face masks, hiking gear and a packed lunch. Drive to the visitor’s information centre, where you will have a briefing from the park rangers. After the briefing, you will be given a gorilla trekking family and assigned park rangers for safety and security in the forest.

Embark on the actual gorilla trekking experience as you navigate through the bamboo trees and lush vegetation in search of the mountain gorillas. Along the trek, you will have a chance to encounter some other primate spaces, including baboons, monkeys and different bird species. Once you find the gorillas, you will be granted 1 hour to spend with the gorillas in a close range of about 10 meters as you watch the gorillas play with the family, feeding and grooming themselves. Your ranger will tell you more about their ways of life. Later, after this experience, you will return to the starting point and drive back to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking and Transfer to Lake Kivu

Have breakfast at the lodge and later drive to the park head quatres for a briefing about golden monkey trekking. Just like gorilla trekking, you shall embark on a thrilling experience through the bamboo trees in search of the golden monkeys. You will be granted 1 hour to spend with the golden monkeys and later return to the lodge for your lunch.

After lunch, you will embark on a thrilling 2-hour drive to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi District. Lake Kivu is one of Africa’s great lakes that acts as an international boundary between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Lake Kivu is the leading source of Fish in Rwanda, making it an ideal source of income for the Rwandans. Lake Kivu offers beautiful safari memories for travellers on a Rwanda tour, including Boat safaris that give you a chance to breathtaking wildlife views.

Arrive at the lodge and check-in for your accommodation. You can spend a relaxed evening with sunset views overlooking the stunning lake.

Day 5: Coffee plantation tour and Relaxation

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the lodge and drive to Kimbiri for a coffee plantation tour exploration. The experience takes you through the coffee plantation process, picking and cupping, which is an extraordinary experience giving an African touch to daily life. Later, after the coffee experience, head back to the lodge for your lunch and relaxation.

After lunch, embark on a thrilling afternoon boat safari on the stunning lake Kivu, which will reward you with breathtaking views and wildlife spotting, such as elephants, crocodiles, hippos, warthogs, buffaloes and different kinds of fish. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Return to Kigali International Airport

After breakfast, you will embark on a 4-hour drive to Kigali International Airport to conclude the 6-day Rwanda Gorilla and Lake Kivu Tour.
