This trip mainly fulfills the jungle narration of gold meeting silver, the combination of gorillas and golden monkeys is an adventure where one encounter silverback gorilla going along with the golden monkeys. The 5 Days Gorilla Trekking and Golden Monkey Safaris leads is possible at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park which is the endemic forest for the endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. The itinerary means driving from Kampala to Mgahinga in Kisoro district southwestern Uganda and has several thrillers of encounters besides which are the batwa people and Lake Bunyonyi.

The means of transportation is road using the land cruiser 4×4 safari vehicle and the accommodation is midrange lodges/hotels. Every day of the trip starts with breakfast, has lunch en-route and ends as planned in the detailed itinerary.

Detailed Trip

Day1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

The first day of the trip, drive from Kampala to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Kisoro district. The drive is approximately 9 to 10 hours journey goes with 2 en-routes of Kayabwe equator point for photographing and lunch at Mbarara city. Reaching the parks in the evening, then will reach and enter the park through Rushaga.

Day2: Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla at Mgahinga are located in bamboos so the track may seem to be physical than anticipated. Leaving your lodge early morning should consider having a backpacker with enough drinking water, sweetened energizing eats, well dressed for the jungle, then go to the starting point. Be briefed on the trekking etiquettes and proceed into the jungle with an armed ranger trekking the single habituated gorilla family at Mgahinga. The trek can proceed for about an hour to 4 hours finding the current location of the apes. And finding the gorillas, you have an hour in their presence being entertained by the gorillas respectively. The all process of trekking can last for 5 to hours which is tiresome walking into the jungle and returning to the starting point. Return to your lodge, refresh, have lunch and relax, can have a swim at the lodge swimming pool relaxing for the next day.

Day3: Golden Monkey & Visit Batwa

This morning well rejuvenated by morning breakfast, from the starting point will be briefed and by 8am will enter the forest into the raised highlands of Mgahinga’s bamboos searching for the beautiful golden monkey. The golden monkeys, though they are shy but are fully habituated to harbor human presence. In the presence of the golden monkey tracking there is an hour allowance following them. The tracking is wetted with a lot of encounters among which include birds, and several primate species, some mammals among with limited chances of finding gorillas. The all process of golden monkey tracking can last for 3 to 4 hours not so tiresome like gorillas can be.

Afterwards, will have lunch and take a drive to the Batwa community for the entertaining Batwa cultural moments. On this cultural tour will be entertained with traditional songs and dances, tales and learning about their lifestyle.

Day4: Transfer & Explore Lake Bunyonyi

This morning transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and explore what this amazing beautiful lake. At the lake will consider taking an afternoon boat ride on this Africa’s 2nd deepest lake. The lake has fascinating islands to visit and explore and the common is the punishment island. Use like 2 to 3 hours on the lake, then return to your lodge for lunch and relax for the rest of the day.

Day5: Transfer back to Kampala

This morning enjoy a relaxed picnic breakfast, and embark on a drive back to Kampala. On the drive there is an en-route at Igongo Cultural Center in Mbarara for lunch and can use an hour to visit the Museum for tales about the western Uganda culture and traditional. Reach Kampala by late evening hours and your drop off will be either at Entebbe International airport or to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe.
